Ausfactor Rules

The following rules have been implemented to assist in the main goal of Ausfactor, to have fun. We race in the virtual world, and have additional problems to real world motorsports, these rules try to account for the possibilities.

Clean racing is the main point to these rules. Again Clean racing is the main point to these rules.

1. You must have minimum 256/64 broadband.

2. Pass with care. If you aren't sure you can pull off a move to pass an opponent, then don't do it. Take your time to work out where to try the move. If you are passing someone on the inside while entering a corner you must have your car at least 1/2 way along side the other car to have the right of way. If you try to pass around the outside then exiting the corner you must be fully along side the other car, otherwise they are entitled to take the normal racing line, which may include pushing you wide. In the event that they do start take you wide, you should fall back behind the other car as safely as possible.

3. If you attempt to pass another driver and tag them during your pass, gaining an advantage, allow them to regain the position, even if it means you lose positions to drivers not involved in the incident. Basically, if you bodge up a pass, you may pay a bigger penality.

4. Defensive driving. Swerving on straights to block another driver is not allowed, a positional change to ensure and protect your line for the
corner are fine. You may move once to defend your position. EG - on a
straight approaching a right hand corner, you are allowed to move to the
right hand side of the track to defend the inside line for the upcoming
corner, you are now committed to that line into the corner, you are not
permitted to move back onto the racing line.

5. Look. Use your look left/right abilities to narrow down the blind spots, also understand where your blind spots are in the car you are diving, remember vision is very limited in the virtual cockpit.

6. Take care re-entering the track. Whether it be from pit lane or the sand pit, it is the responsibility of the car that is re-entering the track boundary to avoid collision.

7. Blue flag. If you get flagged, it means that a car that is leading you is behind. Ensure you give him the racing line and allow an uncontested pass as soon as is practical. This doesn't mean you must leave the track boundary.

8. Yellow flag. If you get shown this, there is an incident ahead. Do not try a passing move under yellow. Take extra caution til the area is clear.

9. Deliberate Corner Cutting: Deliberate Corner cutting will not be tolerated.

10. Don't try and win the race on turn 1. This doesn't work and it causes more problems than the pass is worth. Take extreme care in the first corner.

11. Escaping to the pits. If you are stuck in a sand trap, have un-drivable damage, are caught with no reverse gear or any like circumstance where your car is stranded, it is recommended to press your "ESC" key and exit back to the pits, ensuring the track is clear for cars that are approaching you.

In game chat: You may use in game chat if you need to. You are not required to post pit in or pit out messages. Do not post any messages that may offend others. NB - All Ausfactor servers are G
Rated

Ventrilo. As it is a casual and fun league, Ventrilo is highly recommended as it lightens the mood, assists in the fun, and helps the organisation. It will help you and others to use a PTT (push to talk) button instead of voice activated. Join in and get to know your fellow drivers, even without a microphone it is strongly encouraged.

Race Incidents. Ausfactor is about fun and sportsmanship. Hopefully, all racers competing here
at Ausfactor want the same for everyone that they want for themselves. It is important to us, therefore, to know if drivers have concerns about their experience in racing at Ausfactor. If, in light of the spirit of
Ausfactor, and the above noted rules, you feel that you were unfairly dealt with during an event by another driver, you may lodge a protest for review by the Ausfactor review panel. The protest must be lodged within 24 hours of the completion of the event. To lodge the protest, email the review panel, paying particular attention to the following details:
1. Race details (Event, track, heat No.) etc
2. Incident timing (lap No., track location)
3. Explanation of incident
4. Complaint
5. Confirmation that you have reviewed you replay of the incident (we may ask for it to compare and check for lag effects etc so keep it available).

Ensure you have reviewed the incident yourself so as other people don't need to waste their time. Penalties for guilty drivers range from and include; private & public reprimands, time penalties,
exclusion from qualifying for next event, points deducted, race suspension. Repeat offenders may be considered for series expulsion.

Server Outages.  In the case that a server has an outage before or during any part of a race week end, we ask that you follow the following protocol.
1. Refresh you game server list for at least 10 minutes to see if the server comes back up, the admins will open the server back to an open session as soon as possible and give you time to re-enter the racing.
2. If no server is available within 10 minutes, and it seems there may be a longer then acceptable outage, check the forums to see if anything has been posted in the thread associated with the event.
3. In the case where a full outage disrupts the entire race event, the admins will rerun the race the following night and accommodate those that cannot on another given night, this information will be discussed in the forum.

Players Outages.  We have different rules for different situations and each case is judged on a case by case basis and these rules are never set in stone. however as a guideline:
If a player has an outage during qualify you will be expected to return to the server as quickly as possible. If the outage lasts for an extended period, we will accommodate you to race another night, usually the following night or Wednesday nights.
In the case where players has an outages during warm-up or racing, these are reviewed on a case by case basis. The reason for this is we don't want a situation happening where a driver is having a bad night and decides to quit thinking he will get a re-race on another night or sever.

Rulings.  Ausfactor admins have the final say in all decisions and no further correspondence will be entered into.  Ausfactor is a privately owned and operated community therefore if you abuse the right to play here, you will be banned.  We hold a zero tolerance for breaking the above rules.

Booting and Banning.   While we regret it gets to a situation where we are required to boot or ban drivers from our servers, we do so with the ideal of protecting our community from the foul and unjust behaviour of the select few that think they can bend the rules. Most admins at ausfactor are network engineers or security administrators in real life and have a great deal of knowledge in all aspects of network protocols and security including laws and regulations.  All ausfactor servers are G rated, 100% of the time.  No warning may be given before any action is taken. Be warned that continued poor form will result in abuse notifications sent to your ISP.  The results of these can vary from a simple warning or closure of your internet account.   For security purposes, all drivers IP addresses, email addresses, time stamps and hosts are logged.
